Call transfers
Some calls need you. Most don’t need to interrupt you.
Let your receptionist handle the routine questions and bring a person in when the conversation needs one. You choose the transfer situations and the number to try.
Help when a person is needed. A useful message when they cannot answer.
A visual walkthrough
A caller asks to speak to the business owner, who cannot answer.

01
Decide what deserves an interruption.
Set your transfer instructions around the work: a request for a person, a sensitive enquiry or a situation your receptionist should not resolve. Keep the destination number and business-hours rules current so the handover reflects the way your team works.
02
A message can be the first choice.
A caller who simply wants to leave details does not need a failed transfer first. Infercall can take a structured message directly. Transfer and message-taking are two useful paths, not a compulsory sequence for every call.
03
Know what happens when nobody answers.
Busy, failed or unanswered transfer attempts can return to Infercall for structured message capture. If the destination’s own voicemail answers a connected transfer, that is part of the transferred call, not an Infercall message. Review and test your destination’s behaviour.
MAKE IT YOURS
Set up the useful part.
A transfer attempt is not a guarantee of a connected person. This is business call handling, not an emergency response service.
Set the transfer number in your agent’s settings.
Describe when to offer a person and when to take a message.
Test the answered, unanswered and destination-voicemail paths.
Good questions.
Can a caller leave a message without trying my number?
Yes. A direct request to leave a message can go straight to structured message capture.
Does setting business hours change forwarding on my phone?
No. Business hours guide how Infercall handles a call after it arrives. Your carrier or phone system controls forwarding.
Will every transferred call appear as a message?
No. A connected transfer, including one answered by the destination’s voicemail, is a transfer. Infercall message capture is a separate outcome.
