AI receptionist for US businesses.
Infercall answers your business phone, finds out what the caller needs, and handles the next step. It asks the questions you would ask, takes the address and the scope, books an appointment in a connected calendar, or transfers the call to you with the details attached.
It runs on your existing business number. US plans start at US$5 a month.

Connecting business calls needs a paid plan and the number requirements that apply to the number you choose.
The call you are missing right now
You are under a sink, on a roof, in a chair, or with a patient. The phone rings. It is someone with a job, ready to book, and they will call the next name on the list in about four minutes.
That is the whole business case. An AI receptionist is not a better voicemail. It is a way to turn that call into a booked job while you finish what you are doing.
What it does on a call
- Qualifies. Asks what the work is, where it is, how soon, and whether it is an emergency.
- Books. Creates the appointment in a connected Google Calendar during the call. Square works where the booking access and service settings are in place.
- Answers. Hours, service area, whether you handle that job, what happens next — from the information you supply. When the answer is not in there, it says so rather than inventing one.
- Transfers. Your rules decide what reaches you. The details travel with the call.
- Records. A transcript and, where recording is enabled, the recording, so you know what was actually said.
What it costs in the US
| Plan | Monthly | Included minutes | Additional minutes | Agents |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Starter | US$5 | 50 | 10¢ per minute | 1 |
| Standard | US$49 | 500 | 9.8¢ per minute | Up to 3 |
| Business | US$149 | 1,750 | 8.5¢ per minute | Up to 10 |
Every plan includes one phone number, up to 10 concurrent calls, transcripts and recordings, and 32+ languages. Additional numbers are billed separately, and 100-minute top-up packs are available at the plan's per-minute rate.
A worked month. A home-services business takes 200 calls at two and a half minutes: 500 minutes. That is Standard at US$49 with nothing extra to buy. Double the volume and it is 1,000 minutes: Standard covers 500 and bills 500 at 9.8¢, about US$98 that month — or Business at US$149, which includes 1,750 minutes.
Put that next to the alternative. A missed call on a US$400 job is not a US$400 loss; it is a lost customer and every job they would have brought. The comparison is not the plan price against zero, it is the plan price against the calls you already lose.
When minutes run out. The monthly allowance is spent first, then prepaid credit. After that the number stops answering instead of quietly billing past the plan, until you add minutes or the month rolls over.
Figures are as published on the pricing page. Check that page for current prices.
AI receptionist, answering service, or a front-desk hire?
| AI receptionist | Answering service | Front-desk hire | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Cost | Monthly plan from US$5 | Per call or per minute, plus after-hours premiums | Salary, taxes, benefits and coverage gaps |
| Hours | Whatever you enable | Their staffed hours | 40 hours of a 168-hour week |
| Simultaneous calls | Up to 10 per number | Often queued | One |
| Judgment and empathy | Limited — transfers to a person | Trained operators | Best |
| Best for | Routine enquiries, overflow, after hours | Overflow with human handling | The calls that build the relationship |
The honest version: software should take the calls that do not need a person, so the person you have can take the ones that do. If every call needs judgment, buy people, not software.
Keeping your number, and what to check
You divert your existing business line; the number on the truck does not have to change.
Three practical checks before you switch:
- What your carrier allows. Verizon, AT&T and T-Mobile handle conditional forwarding differently, and some business plans restrict it. Confirm what your plan permits.
- What diversion costs. Forwarded minutes are often billed, and on a busy line that is a line item of its own, separate from your Infercall plan.
- How to turn it off. Know the cancel code before you need it at 9pm.
New numbers depend on area-code availability and the registration requirements that apply to the number type. Complete those before directing customer calls to it.
Call-forwarding codes lists the carrier instructions. It does not change your settings.
Time zones, after hours, and the 3am call
The continental US spans four time zones, and Arizona and Hawaii do not observe daylight saving. If you serve several states, set your business hours deliberately rather than relying on the time where you are standing.
After hours is where the arithmetic usually flips. A plumbing call at 11pm is not a nuisance; it is a burst pipe and a customer who will pay emergency rates to whoever answers. Whether you want that call is your decision — the receptionist follows the rules you set, including "take the details and call them back at 7am".
Setting it up
- Point it at your website so it learns your services, areas and hours.
- Read what it says back and correct what is wrong.
- Choose the voice and set the greeting.
- Set the handover rules: what it books, what it holds, what comes to you.
- Connect a calendar if you want appointments created on the call.
- Test it from a mobile with a real customer question.
- Divert the calls.
Most of the work is step two.
Where it fits, and where it does not
Fits: HVAC, plumbing, electrical, roofing, pest control, garages, dental and medical front desks, salons, law firms taking intake calls, and any business where the same six questions arrive all day.
Does not fit: a call center that needs staffed coverage, a business that wants a human on every conversation, or anyone who needs dispatch, field-crew routing or an arrival-time promise. A calendar appointment is not a technician on the road. Infercall is inbound only, and there is no free trial of business calling — you can configure and listen before you pay.
Common questions
How much does an AI receptionist cost in the US?
Infercall is US$5 a month for 50 included minutes, US$49 for 500 minutes and US$149 for 1,750 minutes, with additional minutes at 10¢, 9.8¢ and 8.5¢ depending on the plan. Compare the included minutes and the overage rate rather than the headline, because the cheapest plan stops being cheapest once the calls run past the allowance.
Is it cheaper than an answering service?
Usually, for routine and after-hours calls. Answering services bill per call or per minute and add premiums for nights and weekends, so a busy month costs more. What you give up is human judgment on the call itself.
Can it book into my calendar?
Yes, with a connected Google Calendar during the call. Square works where booking access and the service settings are in place. A booking is a diary entry, not an arrival promise.
Will callers know it is an AI?
Most will, and pretending otherwise is a bad idea. There are no menus; the caller just talks. Anyone who asks for a person is transferred under your rules. Voice options are listed in setup, and a listed accent is not a guarantee of identical performance on every call.
Does it work with my Verizon or AT&T line?
Diversion is set by your carrier, not by Infercall. Most US business lines allow conditional forwarding, though the codes, the charges and the plan restrictions vary. Confirm with your carrier and test the diversion before pointing customers at it.
Do I need a new number?
No. You forward your existing number. One number is included with the plan, and extras are billed separately.
What happens after hours?
It answers on the hours you enable, using your instructions — including taking the details and booking a callback for the morning. Your plan and available minutes still apply.
What if I run out of minutes?
The number stops answering until you add credit or the plan renews, so there is no surprise overage line. 100-minute packs are priced at the plan's per-minute rate.
Is this a staffed answering service?
No. It is an AI receptionist. Calls that need a person transfer to someone you nominate; a team of operators is not included.
Which states does it cover?
Any US number. Service area and hours are yours to define, which matters in metro areas where a job forty minutes away is not worth the drive.
Is there a way to try it before subscribing?
Yes. Build it from your own site, call it, hear the greeting and the answers, and fix what sounds wrong. Taking live customer calls needs a paid plan and the applicable number requirements.
Does it work outside the US?
Separate pages cover Australia and the United Kingdom. Numbers and pricing are regional.
